Music and Movement: Easy and Fun Indoor Obstacle Course

It's no secret that my little monkeys love physical activities and finding things to keep them active while indoors has be a real challenge for me. If you have read any of my blog posts from the Music and Movement page you will notice that most of our activities use very few toys.  Most of the things I use to develop the gross motor activities for the kids are from the indoor gym I put together.

This week I decided to make an obstacle course in our hallway. We did several different configurations and only used painters tape, agility rings (you can use colored construction paper to mark paths), a balance ball (you can use any ball that your child can roll under and carry over), and safety cones.

The kids had a blast. My toddler thought it was fun to go over and under the tape and I was surprised that he really got the concept.  My preschooler loved it, especially going under and over with the balance ball. She liked it so much, she wanted to do it all over again the next day. I liked that it doubled as a lesson for learning "over" and "under" as well as reinforcing color recognition. Plus, it was quick and easy to set up and take down.

Over and under following a path of only yellow rings.
Rolling the balance ball under and carrying it over from one side of the hall to the other.
