So Easy Science: Spring Planting Project - Plant Life Cycles

Spring planting is right around the corner.  It is the perfect time to introduce the concept of plant life cycles by having your little one get their hands a little messy planting plants.  Last year I did several different planting projects at the same time to keep my preschooler's attention.

First, we did a field trip to our local hardware store and let her pick out several live plants and also a few packs of seeds.  When we got home we let her paint a flower pot to build excitement.  Once dry, we planted her live plant in the flower pot. Then we planted the seeds. She was responsible for watering them every day and had a blast watching them grow.

During our science lessons we discussed:
  1. The parts of the plant
  2. What a plant needs to grow and thrive
  3. Stages of plant growth
For another plant related activity, I found a cute picture of a flower and cute it apart and had her paste the parts back together on construction paper.

This year I am adding some plant cycle charts to the lesson that I picked up at the local school supply store.
