Organize It: Using Themed Toy Bins To Get The Most Use Out Of Your Child's Toys

I don't know if it's just my little monkeys, but they tend to only want to play with whatever toys are currently in our living and are the "it" toys to the exclusion of all other toys.  They would get bored quickly wanting a new activity to do even though they have plenty of toys to play with. To keep things fresh I decided to clear our living room of most toys and set out one toy bin.  I thought it would be fun to make it a themed toy bin. The idea is to keep each bin out for a few days or a week, whatever works best for you.  Then you switch it out for the next themed bin. The kids always feel as though they have new toys and all the toys will eventually get played with.

My little monkeys have loved it and there faces light up when they see the "new" toys. Another plus to doing a themed toy rotation is that a theme can be chosen that will correlate to the theme in any lessons you are doing with them at home.

I also like to leave out books that work with the theme of the toy bin as well, which helps the kids read a variety of books, rather than their favorite few.

Below you will find some ideas for themed toy bins:
